The old man was getting on up in age.
But he had promised his grandson he would taking him fishing one day.

The old man had just turned 70 years old.
Next to his house was an old fishing hole.

He and his grandson a fishing they did go.
To the old fishing hole he loved so.

As they sat on the bank the old man made a wish.
Dear God please let Tommy catch a big fish.

Little Tommy who was only eight.
He looked at his grandpa he thought was so great.

Little Tommy knew his grandpa was getting up in age.
He knew his grandpa would be gone one of these days.

Little Tommy looked to the heavens and made a wish.
Dear God please let grandpa catch the biggest fish.

Very sweet, although my stepfather is 80 and he is one
of the youngest people i know..as they say, its not how
old you are, but how old you feel..this brought back
some memories of taking my grandson fishing
and my husband dropped the large fish by accident back
into the water..and my little grandson wanted to drown him haa..

Juanita, this is a beautiful, touching, emotional poem which brought tears of joy to my eyes.  I figure, that the little boy in the poem is Stevie......am I right?
Beautifully and sensitively written.
Much love to you.

Juanita - Nicely done.  This was a very warm and touching write.

Dave

By the way, I like the fish graphic at the end too, but I hope they weren't going after dolphins.lol

North Carolina Girl - who else could write something this touching, and it is very touching, except a girl from North Carolina.

NC Girl,
Okay...so you know the title makes this mandatory reading on my list. And from where I sit that grandpa is on the near side of old! However, that is just about the sweetest poem I ever read. Super fine job...now where is my fishing pole.

Juanita, this is so very interesting! You've portrayed the innocence of the little boy, praying that the biggest fish would be caught on his grandfather's hook.

Hi Juanita,

What struck me most was the friendship between the two.  A mark of true friendship is when you wish for more for your friend than you wish for yourself.  What a great image you've created here.

Aw, this poem just saddens me.  My grandparents are all getting up in age.  I don't want any of them to go, because I love them all so much.  I hope bothe these wishes came true.  Beautiful write Juanita, you are very creative.
