When the allure of the party is over
and the plug on the jukebox is pulled
don’t huddle by yourself in the corner
like a cigarette butt or little Jack Horner

Polish the tables and shine the floor
spray with glade and pledge the door
a new reflection of you in the mirror
next to the poster of James Dean you adore

Wash the grease from your hands
smooth them with Oil of Olay
smile to a new tune of tomorrow
tip your hat and have a nice day
don’t be a soda jerk the rest of your life
pick yourself up when you’re down
scrape the Bazooka bubble gum
from beneath the fountain of your frown

You can complain because roses have thorns, or you can rejoice because thorns have roses.

                                                -Ziggy

Victoria, I love this, first of all I saw the title and bazooka is my favorite, or was, my grandson likes the improved new kind. then I read it through and It sounded more and more like me, I love James Dean, always have, and of course the old housework, with pledge. LOL nice write, floria

...and when the quarters for the juke
   all run dry
   and one-time glory of teen
   passes us by
   when we finally find
   the young ewe in you
its time to smile, yearbook closes
and scrap the gum from our shoe

your poem had a modern element of a.a.Milne in it,
and pooh-esque aint bad, ya know ya know?  *smiles*
