Becoming As a Child

As I grow older
and less wise
I find myself
becoming more
a child.

More enamored
by precious things
like bumble bees,
butterflies,
and creeping caterpillars.

Sunsets captivate,
rainbows exonerate,
egrets and herons
stand tall in grand array.

Sunrises promise
and sometimes dare
me to go forth
one foot at a time
into my dwindling future.

More feebly
I’ll become,
steps faltering
as she who is learning
to take her first steps.

That will be me,
I know, but
that’s okay,
because there is not
a more precious time
than childhood.

When everything
intrigues and steals
one’s thoughts,
pulling toward
learning, and wisdom
as well.

In the spell
of life
I follow with my eyes
focusing on each
element I see.
It’s the only way
to hang on to me
and where I be
in this microscopic
moment
of eternity.

VAS - Yes, seeing life through the eyes of a child - once again. It can be done!! I really enjoyed this. Chris

Vas, I think this is sweet and delightful. However, I do not look forward to drooling, being spoon feed or babbling incessantly. I do not think my children will find those as adorable as I did when they were small. Smiles! Cheryl

Thank you, both, and Cheryl...not to mention diapering, etc.

Have you read "Tuesdays with Morrie"? I really believe that book is one of the most important books to read.

Vas this is truly lovely, I know of this first hand as my mother is 92 and I bring her dolls for gifts and she loves them..There is so much truth in this piece. I find I stop to really look at butterflies and nature more than I used to..wonderful writing. floria
