Penned for a child that I have been gifted the honor of knowing and for whom I pray daily.

Lost Between Cultures

I see this beautiful native child
So sad of for her young years
A trustless soul and a heart defiled
Strong, defiant to hide her fears
God how could one so dear be lost
I see her slipping farther each day
Mother’s drinking bears high cost
Her daughter forgotten by the way
To her grandma she is sent to live
Hospice, a check for a home
How can one so young forgive
Loss of love, sense of being alone
Into her own world she retreats
With silent tear and hardened soul
Kicked around by politics’ feet
Without care for her console
Passed birthdays without gift
Slept nights without a meal
What can give this soul a lift
Imagine how she must feel
No-one seems to care at all
If she laughs or if she cries
Or pick her up after a fall
Wipe the tears from her eyes
Her own culture turns its back
Ours say it’s not their call
I know I paint this picture black
But there is no color here at all
I’m talking of this child’s soul
Her lack of emotional nurture
This will carry an exacting toll
On her outlook and her future
From this day I solemnly vow
To gift her a smile each day
And I’ll find a way somehow
To keep her darkest fears at bay

(tears fall down my cheeks) God Bless You, sweet friend, your loving heart always shines in your beautiful words with love and compassion! (sigh) My heart cries out to this poor little girl, and I can't believe how her parents could treat her that way, but I just know if anyone can help her feel better again, it's you! (big hugggsssss) If only there were more loving people like you out there, sweet friend, we are all so happy and blessed to know you! My prayers join yours for this sweet little girl! We all love you so much, sweet friend! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Brian, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Hello Brian
So very powerful were your words as they painted such a very sad but real picture of our society.  Unfortunately the majority of people seem too caught up in their own worlds to care about others.  How very fortunate this beautiful child has your gift of love which I'm sure would make her smile. Your words made me very emotional Brian and I hope there is light at the end of the tunnel for this child.  Take care.....Sue

brian--I was a teacher for many years and saw so many situations that made me cry...You show great empathy and a kind heart in this poem..perhaps your smile and her adversity will make her strong...I hope so!

I love how you added to this poem about how you will give her a smile each day and help ease her pain somehow. This is so heartbreakingly sad but so real in todays world...The pour children are the ones who suffer the most and then we complain when they grow into adults who seem to not care about anyone or anything. BRAVO!!!You are truly a man of great heart, my friend, and I applaud your efforts to help. **big big hugs**

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

Brian, if you would, I would like to know the child's name so that I may add her to my prayers. You can answer here or email me at Morcastlin@aol.com  Your poem touched me greatly and I would like to do what I can to help. This is so very sad. Poor child, I hate to hear of such heartbreaking things. God bless you, you have written this beautifully.

Sometimes children are treated as weeds or wild flowers, stepped on as if they were of no consequence. And because of deeply ingrained color/race/socio-economic prejudices, many are abused, ignored, left to fend for themselves, or pushed from shelter to foster care or onto the streets. Until every child on earth is given equal access to food, shelter, education, and a caring family, there will be no Peace on Earth. That's how I see this issue. Thank you, Brian, for being worthy of the name of human.
