It costs nothing-----
But creates much.
It enriches those who receive
Without impoverishing those who give.
It happens in a flash
And the memory of it
Sometimes lasts forever.
None are so rich they can get along without it,
And none  so poor
But--are richer for its benefits.
It creates happiness in the home,
Fosters good will in a business,
And it is the countersign of friends.
It is rest to the weary,
Daylight to the discouraged,
Sunshine to the sad,
And natures' best antidote for troubled souls.
Yet----
It cannot be bought, begged, borrowed or stolen.
For it is something that
Is no earthly good to anybody
Until it is given away.
And if----
At the end of a long, long day,
Someone should be too tired to give you a smile----
I ask that you give one of yours.
For no one needs a smile as much
As those who have none left to give.

A fantastic smile you do share!

No feeling is more inspired or cast down
by just the expression on a face.  You
have covered it well.  So much can be seen
by simple expressions....

Very well stated! Nothing can uplift the heart as well as a given smile, or the memory
of such....Lovely poem....

Thank you all very much for reading.  I am glad you all enjoyed it.  I wrote this poem as I was thinking of my soulsister Jane,  Our friendship began from just a smile.  I was a very distant, closed off person.  Very difficult to get close to, to get to know and most people turned their backs without giving it a second thought, but Jane,  She stuck around and Every day---every day,  no matter how many times I told her to F off she still just sat there with that angelic smile.  I used to tell her I was going to slap it off her face---now---I honestly couldn't live without it.  Something as simple as a smile can break through the strongest walls,  and brighten the darkest of spirits.  And it is definitely worth it.
