Over and Over

Over the river and through the wood
I cooked as good a pie I could
To grandmothers house they came in droves
To see what’s cooking on my stove

The horse knew the way to carry the sleigh
To grandmother’s house to get some hay
Through the white and drifted snow he danced
And into grandmother’s house they pranced

Over the river and through the wood
I cooked the turkey like I should
Oh how the wind did blow and chill
But they still came to get their fill

It stings the toes and bites the nose
While turkey roasted,  Trigger froze
Hurrah for the food!, Hurrah for the fun!
The puddin’s hot, and Grandma’s done

Over the river to home they sped
And Grandma dropped right into bed
While visions of sugarplums danced in her head
And dozens of cookies for them to be fed

They’re all a’cheerin for Christmas is near
And back to Grandmother’s house this year
But Grandmother went on down the street
To somebody else’s house to eat

So back through the woods, the bridge they crossed over
Now somebody else has got to take over
The task was to great to make all that fun
Now seven are doing the work of just one

Grandma

Enjoyed this very much. I offered to buy turkey and ham if someone, anyone, would do the cooking this year.

Elizabeth, this was so lovely, I really enjoyed it.

LOL, know this one for sure.  Guess what?  I am now officially off the hook - Yippeeeee!  This is the beginning of a new way of "holidaying" for me and I am thrilled!  This was too cute and way too familiar too, LOL.
