Pride vs. Humility
By Larry Chadwick

I have been thinking lately about pride,
All the faults we think that it can hide.
It's easy to consider yourself the best,
When you think you’re better than the rest.

But I’ve also been thinking about humility,
And how it could possibly change me.
I’ve discovered it is a trait so very rare,
Just when you think you have it, it’s not there.

Then there is the Ordinance of Humility,
An act that Jesus commited just for me.
How with a towel he bent down on one knee,
It was His form of leadership He let me see.

So life isn’t about whether I am the best,
But whether I’m willing to serve the rest.
And so for the rest of my life I will try,
I will try even to be willing for others to die.

Sin isn't fair, but God got even, grace isn't fair either.  larry c

wow.
very thought-provoking and deep.
i like this.
one fragment:
one of the things known in military terms is "the burden of command."
it refers to the pain that a man feels when he is forced to allow others to die, in the full knowledge that he can't save them all.
this applies, for when Jesus gave himself up to the people, he knew that he would have to die in order to save others, but the disciples didn't. this is why they were so grief-stricken at his death, because they were unable to accept that he had died not from chance but Necessity. even though they knew why he was dying, they were unable to accept that sometimes it is something that must happen.
this is actually very sad, but amazingly well-written.

And sadly, a thought so rare these days.

Dave,
Thanks for your in depth reply. Theology is also an interest of mine as that is what I got my degree in. You nailed it. No pun intended.   By the way, I like your military perspective you offer to so many things.

Larry~This piece is utterly profound!  A great and thought provoking write.  Unfortunately it is past my bedtime, therefore I shall read it again a couple more times until it is embedded in my mind and then I shall sleep on it.  Perhaps to awaken with an even deeper meaning to it in the morning.  Again, great write and nite nite.
(Also bed time for Grandpas too!)

Nancy Lee,
Back at you...Oh and thanks for the nice things you said. I might surprise you with some more deep thoughts. Hmmm. That sounds familiar.

Walt,
The truth is I don't know that joke, but I'm willing to listen...

Lizzy,
Thanks, and I'm glad you're here at Passions.

Humility. Modesty. Unpretentiousness. Understating one's own rank or position.
The antithesis of arrogance and boastfulness.

A very fine write, Larry. Good food for thought. HUGS.

Midnitesun,
For those that don't get it. My remark was based on your "food for thought" response and your poptart poem...anyway

Blackdrake,
So very true. Right there under our noses. We all do it though. Neglect the truth! Usually for convenience sake.
