Hazards for Non-Vets!
By Larry Chadwick

I’m sitting at my computer minding my own business,
Reading poems honoring all our vets on veterans day.
Inspired by poems like “Small Pain in my Chest…….
Really moved by the things that Balladeer had to say.

When a huge roar swooped down close from the sky,
Shocked me completely out of my meditative mood!
Sure it must be jets moving  at the full speed of sound,
I didn’t want to miss the show I knew it would be good.

So, like a bat out of somewhere I raced for the patio,
Knowing full well that time was truly of the essence.
Now I respect all vets, understanding what they did,
Certain this flyby would be honored by my presence.

The louder and closer they came I knew it wasn’t one,
Don’t forget the haste with which I hastened to the door.
Remember, it wasn’t all that easy for me to see the risk,
But blowing through the screen I crashed onto the floor.

Now I know that a bruised and battered ego ain’t that bad,
But I burned my knee and hurt my pride too you can bet.
Are you sure that there isn’t some form of colored heart,
To acknowledge my gallant effort in vain to honor the vets?

ROTFLMAO! I have a spare bandaid for your knee, but nothing that can cover your naked
Em-bare-***-mint (phonetically spelled)

Bet I'm gonna pay for this later.

Midnitesun,
I can always count on you! We'll address bare things later.   If you were concerned I am fine, but the screen is totalled! LOL And my wife laughed 'til she cried, several times...well let's just say she doesn't have it out of her system yet!

Did she kiss your big booboo? ROTFLMAO. That screen door is replaceable for under $200. You, on the other hand, are absolutely priceless.

Irish Rose,
And ya' know, I never did see the planes. When my wife sobered up she told me there were four.

Lady In White,
You know, timing is everything. They're on order. In the mean time, I'm being real careful.

Regina,
Yup, you would have laughed your buns off. Glad it ain't on film!
