There were brook trout
in the cold brown shadows
of the big stream that ran chilled
from the big hills that pass for mountains
in the Northwest corner of New Jersey.

There were long-legged water bugs, too,
that walked on water with
tiny padded feet that just bent the surface
of the sun-dappled water, as though
the stream was made of lemon Jell-O.

But it was summer sweltering even
in
the shade,
in the woods,
by the stream,
under the trees,
as the slippery brook
slid over polished rocks
as they had done, ice-ages aside,
for all of these past few million years.

                                                                                                  .

                                                                                                                  .

Loved this..and it was not what I expected from the title. Very unusual, but it got the job done - it made me want to read your poem. Good job!

Water bugs on lemon jello. What a delightful unusual image. Very well done, Glenn. Thank you for sharing!

Your titles are always soooo intriging....I've defently seen those water bugs, it took me back to that great camping trip.  Thanks

(sigh) Soooooooo beautiful and delicious, sweet Glenn! (smiles) I love dipping my feet into cool mountain streams, it always feels so relaxing and looks like lemon-line cascading and reflecting the summer Irish green trees. (sigh) We all love you so much, sweet friend! (big hugggssssss) You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Glenn, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

I love to gaze at the bugs skidding across the water..I know it is nutty..but you have said it so right it looks like they are skating on Jello...I love the vision of this poem. Thank you. **hugs**

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.
