The Copeland Trail

To Gloucester town
Bid thee farewell
If you're Barrington bound
You'd best not dwell

Best now to be on your way
Out along the Copeland Trail
It's been known to make men shy
To shed a tear, and seem quite frail

Past the bones of fortunes failed
Those who tried for Copeland's gold
There you'll feel the steely chill
As breath it churns, icy cold

When Bellbirds announce you've made the top
There's little doubt you'll swell with pride
But then turn ashen grey to know
You've still to make the other side

Then there'll come a chance to rest
Down upon the plains of old Cobark
Perhaps sit a while and quietly smile
In a place renowned for the larrikins lark

Then be off again for that final climb
Through the mist to answer Barringtons call
Up past the Moppy, and on to Polblue
Trek through the scrub, feeling ten feet tall

Be it rain or snow, or searing drought
Life abounds amid that bright red dust
To see nature's gifts go running free
Surely now you'll know the bushman's lust

Round the campfire at night
You can spin the bushman's tale
About how you love and live
Along the Copeland Trail

Eddie, let me tell you how much I enjoyed reading this today. I enjoyed the freshness and flow yes, but I enjoyed the feeling I got from reading it.  It was like returning to a spot, a trail or something you are familiar with and that's a great feeling....thank you for posting this.

Wonderful and vivid images Eagle One.  A wonderful tale told and seen through your vision.  *s*

Eddie,
Isn't it wonderful to go back to a place of our memories and it is still as beautiful as we remembered?
You already know how much I love this one

And for those who want to know (like I did)... http://www.minerals.nsw.gov.au/minfacts/74.htm

Hard to pick here which was the best..
the wonderful imagery or the cadence...
this was melodic Eagle...like a Van song
GOOD to see your smiles and rhymes here my friend

With starting my new job and my exams I'm somewhat stretched for time so please forgive the group reply. I thank you all for your most valued comments. This area is indeed a place that is close to my heart, I'm glad I could take you there in some small part. And Janet, Van is in a class all by himself!   I hope to be back soon, take care!
