Ocean Sunset

by Michael

I stayed at the ocean until sunset,
watching dolphins play,
waves splashing against the seawall
with great displays of foam and spray.

As sun began setting
the water changed from dark blue
to jade green
and then caught colors
of the falling day
and painted itself accordingly.

Just as the sun
was about to drop completely out of sight
I watched it light the moon
and prepare the sky for coming of night.
First stars appeared.

A mist began rolling in from the ocean
and the shoreline
soon became damp with fog.

I spoke to a pretty young woman
gathering shells.
She said she was gathering them
so they could be spread
across the tables at her wedding.
I gave her the ones I’d been collecting
and watched as she smiled.

As darkness came
I made my way home.

Michael--Thank you for painting the ocean's sunset on the east coast for me.  One day you will see it slip into the sea in California.  This was a beautiful poem, and a great gift, the shells.  Hugs!

Oh, Michael. Now you've made me just a bit homesick for the coast...any coast! I spent many hours collecting seashells and driftwood for my kinetic sculptures, and watching sunsets and sunrises was always a spiritual moment for me. Thank you for warming my heart tonight (and it is -20F outside now, going to -30F by Sat!)
Why am I here? Why am I not strolling on the beaches at sunset? Why? Maybe next year.

Kacy,
-20F?  YIKES!  It's 74F here.  Come on down, my friend and we'll collect some shells together under the warm southern sun.    Thank you

Regina,
Thank you for the sweet compliment.  I could also say exactly the same of you, my friend.
