Unstrung Fiddle
for Bobby...thanks for the inspiration

he was an unstrung fiddle
waiting to be strung
the art of his melody
had long since been sung

hiding in his emptiness
the carved beauty of his wood
sitting all alone
so misunderstood

longing to be held and played
no rosin for his bow
without strings and touch
music can not flow

just memories of music
were his clearest tones
echoing empty heart
is all now that makes him moan

playing C in the middle of our lives
we learn to modulate to capitulate
high tones hard to reach
low can be tone deaf fate

without loving hands
nothing can change the quiet
stringing hearts and lives
a magical musical riot

oh, unstrung fiddle
one day again you will play
with the perfect hands in touch
who’s strings will stay
