I took these two photographs during my "lunch excursion" to New York City in February of this year - when Severn coerced me into taking a 5 hour bus ride (each way) to meet her and Liz Santos and Denise.  I'm so grateful now that I did. Thanks again, Kamla.

I don't know if the context of these pictures is accidental or if I inadvertantly positioned the camera as I did - but in retrospect, particularly the one of our flag embracing the twin towers is very special to me.

I'm proud of what these photos stand for, and post them in that light.  I sincerely hope that none of you are bothered by them, as I know it is an astoundingly sensitive time.  If so, I'll certainly remove them from this thread.

God Bless...

ONE HUMANITY

A
Godly Sun
Stepped soundlessly
Upon an eastern tide
In mantled tendrils
Risen from serene repose
Bemusing warmth in
Waning summer's
Cloudless dawning sky

A
Godly Sun
Thence met befraught
Entreating lamp of gold
Held stalwartly upon
The shores of Lady Liberty
Lest Freedom's reign be clouded
By an ashen flood of steel
Upon a dark eleventh mourn

A
Godly Sun
Yet shone on high
Above duplistic billow's dark
Defilement of Freedom's day
Mere underworld intent
To undermine our sanctity
and thwart the provident
Ascension of a Worldly Peace

A
Godly Sun
With opened hands
In healing prayer forsooth
Enjoined a Great Divide
O'er skies American United
In our Freedom's song
To harmonize Amazing Grace
Upon the mourning sky

A
Godly Sun
Spread rays of love
To every continent
With shining fingers far outstretched
To touch each saddened heart with light
And lift the shadows of mistrust
Embracing all on earth as one
Enlightened by a darkened day

A
Godly Sun
Holds mankind's fate
Enclenched within in its palm
American Stripes proudly wave
In worldwide gratitude
And dedicate as kindred stars
Now Heaven's Angels holding high
Their beacons at each shore

For One Humanity
God Bless Us One And All

Waft every crest upon your destined sea
Embrace the Wave of Serendipity
Lest its elusive arcane ecstasy
Refurl with sail for all eternity
Nancy Ness

Fantastic expression, Nan. I was going through my pictures from the trip and I also had taken one of the flag on Liberty Island, not even realizing the Twin Towers were in the background until looking through them again 2 weeks ago. So much has been changed forever.

Nan ... this is simply, and astoundingly beautiful, both in what you captured through the camera's lens, and through your incredibly beautiful words. Truly, I am in awe ... this is magnificent writing, and is mirrored in what these photos depict.

Best wishes and hugs,
/Kit

Nan, This is so very well done!  I do not see how any of us here would disapprove.  Your words are as heartfelt as the pictures are beautiful.
Hugs to you and the rest of America.  ~NancyLee~

i have no words.
i've said them all to you......
so beautifully awesome
what you've written here

I have no words
my heart forever true
to all the all you've shared
with words and images
you've given here......

i have no words
i'm silent
like the mist
behind the lady's torch
brilliant in the mist of fog,
rising to free!

i have no words
and so i've spoken them

but hey, that's just me!! LOL!!!!!!

I can't see how anyone would take offense here Nan. Beautiful words, and beautiful pictures.

And as for Doreen up there saying she has no words!!!! Well, geesh, she fills up a lot of space for no words  lol

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

Now that was absolutely fantastic, both in presentation and in your sensitivity of the subject Nan.  I am not sure I can say it was perfecto mongo because I am no judge of poetry that is for sure, but from what I read, and how it made me feel, I give you A++ on this.     Thank you.

Thank you, dear friends, for stopping by and reading this poem - It took me a long time to get it together...

Kethry - Thanks - Let's hope the backlash is appropriately directed and contained...

Denise - You're so right - but nothing can change the 'specialness' of that day, can it?..

Kit - We've a mutual admiration thingy then... Because I admire your work equally...

NancyLee - Many thanks - to you and the rest of the World...

PdV - Thankya - Special indeed...

Sy - I truly appreciate you...

Lady of Shallot - Glad you enjoyed..

Balladeer - It's 'structured' free verse... STRUCTURED, it is - Going off to rhyme now...

Doreen - Um.. I just don't know what to say...

Maree - Thankya - Keep your eye on the other side of the world for us, OK?...

Melissa - Thankya Honeybee...

Tracey - I truly appreciate the support - Thanks...

Mysteria - LOL - The thing about free verse - which I very RARELY dabble in, is that there are NO rules... ergo.. How can we follow them or break them?? I was telling my 'deer' friend just last night how I can understand that free-versers always want to make changes to their work... Not so with structured verse - Once it's done, it's done... I don't know how this one can ever be complete... I almost wrote it beginning each stansa with "The Sun of God" rather than
"A Godly Sun"... I'm still not sure which is better... Ah well... It's all revolutionary... um... in a day's work...Thanks, btw...

Nan~
You touch me with your sensitivity~

Your thoughts, a beautiful accompaniment to the photos~

'A

Thence met befraught
Entreating lamp of gold
Held stalwartly upon
The shores of Lady Liberty
Lest Freedom's reign be clouded
By an ashen flood of steel
Upon a dark eleventh mourn'

So touching~
And I thank you for reaching in and finding the words~

Nan - The poem is incredible, as are the pictures.  My favorite picture is the one of you trying to strangle your cat.  Did he put up a good fight?  I hope he didn't scratch you very much.  Sometimes cats will do that.  Please don't tell Sunshine or Pandora about this post, as they have NO perspective on the rightful disposition of kitties.
