Her name was Sienna
born the first day of Autumn
maple leaves rustled in the wind
and to her mothers surprise
she had caramel eyes
not blue like the powder within the sky

Innocent eyes, the shade of autumn
nutmeg and ginger
and a dash of copper and gold
Sienna was her name
beautiful as a grande dame
robins sang in a nest of harmony

Her biological father she never knew
his eyes caramel not blue
was just a brief starry eyed encounter
her mothers husband just smiled
he thought for a while
and remembered her best friend Kate
a distant sultry affair
in his glove compartment, her lace underwear

They welcomed their sweet Sienna
a gift they would both share
into the forgiving, brisk autumn air.

Every child is an artist. The challenge is to remain an artist once he grows up.

This is the first one I've read of your poems, but it will not be the last. What a truthful sounding tale, one for a real Sienna to fall back on someday. I love the way you used color to color the emotional layers in this.
