Branches

Little white pine
goaded with envy
frail beneath the forest green
Winter's weight
bends you at the knees

Aspen's touch
against the bare
oak branches
Roots of what could have been
bring no comfort

Burdens of the season
tip the scales against renewal
Heavier still the limbs sway closer
to the lake's silver glazed face

Earthen scent cloys the
fading of the old
Reflections now
as the waters ran deeper
than wood could ever know

Maiya, Willie,

this is really great portrayal.

Aspen's touch
against the bare
oak branches
Roots of what could have been
bring no comfort

I could feel the loneliness....
loved it from start to finish.
