Narrow Path

A walk through the woods
on a cool autumn day
nature's sights I do see
in awesome display.

The sun is shinning
a crisp breeze in the air
I follow the narrow path
that I have made there.

My journey the same
each time that I go
but nature does change
as she puts on her show.

I hear from above
up high in the trees
the song of a bird
that's sure to please.

As I follow the path
in the distance I see
the sparkling water of a stream
that beckons to me.

Come closer it calls
and see what is there
perhaps a deer taking a drink
not a worry or care.

As I approach the stream
on this cool autumn day
I see a pair of squirrels
happily at play.

I watch for a while
and continue on my way
enjoying nature's beauty
this fine cool day.

Something catches my sight
as I look to see
and array of colorful leaves
gently falling on me.

And there to the left
in wonder I see
a pair of deer looking straight at me.

I slowly approach
as they graze the tender grass
hoping this view
would forever last.

My walk down the narrow path
is coming to a close
my adventure away
from all my cares and woes.

As I step out from that peaceful place
I shall carry a smile upon my face
for the joy and the beauty
that I have found there
will tell a wonderful story that I can share.
