~*~ The Golden Box ~*~

She held the box in her trembling hands,
as her heart fluttered in remembrance of
a love consummated in truth and trust.
Saddened at the recollections of years past,
of a bond of love that had been so secured,
the moon and stars shone in unison to brighten
every night of their magical love.
Her mind’s eye remembered
passion’s breath on her skin, and
how his smile soothed her soul.
His very essence ran through her veins.
Theirs was to be a love everlasting
that moved earth, heaven and stars.
He had said they were two hearts,
Beating as one metronome of an eternal love.
Her tears began to fall,
and sting her skin with the memories.
His one indiscretion had violated her trust.
Her heart had shattered in an instant.
She had made a choice,
for without trust there was nothing.
Shrinking from the loneliness of that choice
she opened the box.
Shivering in anticipation,
she picked one, frayed at the edge.
Just one of many love letters
read over and over again.
As they were now all she had,
Of what was never meant to be.

Wonderful story, Sharon.  You know, this one reminds of the book "The Christmas Box" by Richard Paul Evans.  It's a wonderful story if you're not familiar with it, I bet you'd love it.  Great work!

Golden box,
With a golden key that locks,
Emotion,
Unwritten,
Till you opened with your heart,
And gave part.

Sharon, this is oh so beautiful.  I wanted to rush to the end to see if she opened the box...wow.  Such emotions I am feeling!  It did remind me as Lone Wolf stated, the story of The Christmas Box.  You are talented indeed.

Gee whiz, thank you everyone for your wonderful comments.  I saw this art today, and had to write around it somehow.  I have not read the Christmas Box but I will now, and PG sometimes you are too smart  , you are all so special for taking the time to read my little poem, and I really appreciate it, thank you.

Soooo very sad, but so eloquently written, as yours always are.  With such grace and beauty words flow from your pen that reach out and touch our hearts in the deepest places...this is yet another example of that.
Love ya muches, always, ~*~dawn~*~
