Heart be strong, don’t fail me now,
Life goes on, someway, somehow,
I never knew innocence could be a crime,
But I’ll make it through these trying times,

Stupid, young, scared, but true,
All these things I was to you,
You thought you had a little girl,
To play with in your grown-up world,

I knew when to leave, knew when to let it go,
But I never thought there was so much I didn’t know,
And I may still be young, but no longer am I scared,
I know now what’s out there and my heart will be prepared,

Still got my pride, still got the strength in my soul,
Though you pierced my heart, time will mend the hole,
You can’t keep me down, can’t trample all my dreams,
Can’t play me for a fool with your childish schemes,

Someday I’ll look back and find I left you in the dust,
A memory of my youth, a short-lived state of lust,
I’ll wonder what I saw in you, why I had liked you so,
And laugh at the little girl I was not so awful long ago,

You had me for a while, got by on just your charm,
Can’t believe I was so ignorant, so gullible, so easy to disarm,
For now my hearts still healing, working through the pain,
I’m getting stronger day by day, and soon I’ll smile again,

Time will ease the pain and my heart will surely heal,
I’ll learn to see the difference from the fake words and the real,
No more feigned affection, no more sweet sounding lies,
Thanks to you, such things I now easily recognize,

Heartache is the price you pay for innocence,
As strength and knowledge are it’s consequence,
So courage don’t desert me, the journey still is long,
As life undoubtedly continues, Heart you must be strong.

Beautifully written words that show strength and maturity.
"I knew when to leave, knew when to let it go,
But I never thought there was so much I didn’t know,
And I may still be young, but no longer am I scared,
I know now what’s out there and my heart will be prepared,"
Being prepared is half the answer. Being smart enough to know when to fold the cards is probably the key to the other half of the game, but I've never been lucky at cards or love, so don't pay too much attention to me.

Wow such a powerful message
with knowledge and wisdom
flowing within the words,
Yes you heart will be strong
because like your words you
are strong.
