My Eyes

My eyes have not seen the light
or the curtain of darkness
that you call night,
but I know
those moments in the sun's eternal voyage
are indeed quite beautiful

I have not seen the mountain peaks
which rise above the earth
in towering majesty searching space,
but I am sure they are a sight to behold

I have not seen the moon
dangling precariously in the firmament,
but I know it is a grand awakening

I have not seen a bird in flight
struggling against gravity,
nor have I seen a human face,
neither have I seen the fair skin
of a beautiful woman,
but I am sure they are wonderful to look upon

My eyes do not see as yours,
but I have seen love and felt it
and know that we're all special
in some way

My eyes have not seen the light of day
since I was born,
but I have seen it in my heart and mind.
I can feel it from all
boundaries of the imagination.
If it can be said that there are such limits

I have seen plenty for one without sight
and perhaps more than those with eyes,
for I have seen more beauty
in this short moment of life
than I could ever have dreamed possible.

Years ago I knew a man without sight and through him realized just how blind I truly was.  I taught me how to "see" and appreciate the things around me.
I hope you enjoyed this.

You received the better gift, then, from what that person was able to share with you...

Welcome to Passions!  I for one am going to enjoy your poetry as it comes along...

Please check your e-mail for a special greeting!

Sea Watcher--The senses are many...and to see without eyes opens them.

"My eyes do not see as yours,
but I have seen love and felt it
and know that we're all special
in some way"

This is so true..a lovely expression of a gift from someone special.  Welcome to Passions!

This is a wonderful poem and I so enjoyed it. I can relate very well to what you are writing as my younger sister went blind before she died and I tried to describe the world around her, so she might "see".  She had sight for many years beforehand, so that helped.

Welcome to the site and you will find many fine poets and friends here.

SeaWatcher~
Welcome to Passions.

This is a lovely post that I can identify with, as I have a gentle friend who sees with his hands and his heart also.

He has shared his *gift* with me ... and I feel richer for it~

Thank you for sharing your lovely thoughts.

Some say the eyes are windows to the soul. I believe the windows of your soul are very wide open, receiving while giving back so much love that most of the world could afford to be blinded by the brilliance of your light.
