where the sky and horizon meet

0 posted 2001-09-22 07:17 PM

You came to us
a little ball
of malnutrition
and mistreatment
We wrapped you in
love and blankets
a searched your grateful eyes
for hope
We watched you get stronger
We watched your steps gain bounce
And we watched each other
for the smiles
we all wanted to show

For three weeks
we took turns spending
our waking hours
making you feel happy and loved
And then one day
you were gone...
And all that was left of you
was the echo of your sratchy
meow in my mind
Leaving me with only one comfort
that you discovered love and warmth
in our family and your last hours
were spent immersed in it

In loving memory of Cricket, the sweetest kitten ever to grace my world.

* I tried several approaches to be able to post a picture with this but was unable to as my servers wouldn't allow that sort of thing I guess....any suggestions? *

Oh how very sad and touching Krista
but also a beautiful, sincere poem of a gentle time of shared love and kindness.
take care
jm

Well tomorrow holds only mystery
And who's to say what might be
But in you I found a love so strong
The sun and the moon looked on in jealousy

This was very sweet and sad.  I read it because of the title.  My nickname throughout grade school and high school was cricket.

JM~ Thank you Janet, your words always warm my heart.

ButterfliesDon'tCry~ He was such a precious little guy.  Thank you for your sweet words of comfort.

Lisann~ He was given the name Cricket after Jimminey Cricket from Pinnochio because he was so tiny and also to compliment our other cat named Figaro (black and white).  How did you get the name?
Thanks for stopping by Lisann aka Cricket

Enchantress~ Thank you for your kindness.

Hugs to all of you!

Wow this reminded me of Cali, my cat that I miss more than I can tell you, so yes, I know exactly how you are grieving, as I am not over loosing her yet.  They say the best thing is to go out and get another one.  Great big huge hugs, and I know exactly how you are feeling, and I am so sorry for your loss.

Mysteria~ He was our "go out and get another one" cat    We'd just lost our siamese a couple of months earlier.  We'll probably try again...this time though, I think we'll get one from the humane society.
Thank you for your words of comfort...I'm sure you will always remember Cali and I'm sure I will always remember Cricket...even though he was only with us for such a short while.

Cpat Hair~ Yes, it's true.  Thank you for stopping by, it's nice to be seeing your name here again.

Hugs to you both

Smitten~~~~
I got the name cricket because I can make the chirping noise that a cricket makes.  I use to do it all the time in class just to tick off the teachers.  YEah I know,  it was mean and childish but hey I was a mean and childish kid.  Of course, if I knew back then what it meant when a cricket makes that noise I probably wouldn't have done it.

The chirping is the female cricket in heat.

I am so sorry for your loss. You've written your grief well - and also reminded us that it's not the length of time a friend has graced our life that matters but the depth they've touched our hearts.

Lisann~ Wow, that's quite the talent you've got there    hehe, that's unfortunate about the meaning though.
Thanks again for stopping by.  *hugs*

illusion~ thank you...that is a very profound and kind thing you said.  I agree whole-heartedly.  *hugs*
