    Each Year's Measure

The rose lifts up each petal full
in lavender beguile traced
stretched out into the minute’s meaning
it’s dusty purple is grace

The curled lifting flag so draped
within the garden’s tender
attached by bamboo pole is simple
meaning of what is splendor

The heartbeat of the hammer heard
upon some workmen’s bench
gives rhythm to the neighborhood
and normalcy behind my fence

The leaves blow from the autumn tree
across the grass of green
and the squirrels make race on phone line freeway
their winner heard not seen

My heart with heavy loaded changes
this day will start brand new
for birthdays only come one time
each year they measure you

The minutes spent expanding mind
and giving love away
is cherished by the sound it makes
when filling each day’s empty tray

The music is the gold of wealth
along the stormy path of years
and the knowledge builds a monument
from hugging smiles and tears

My heart with heavy loaded changes
each year they measure you
for birthdays only come one time
this day I’ll start brand new

Thank you for sharing your B-day with us

Well tomorrow holds only mystery
And who's to say what might be
But in you I found a love so strong
The sun and the moon looked on in jealousy

Some writings, only certain people can do. This one could only be done by a mother named Martie...

~* HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARTIE *~

Here it is your birthday, and you are giving us the present as usual!  What a wonderful poem and I loved this stanza:

The minutes spent expanding mind
and giving love away
is cherished by the sound it makes
when filling each day’s empty tray

I know this year you are going to have your tray filled shortly to overflowing!  I smile even at the thought of that, what a birthday present!

Again, Happy Birthday sweet friend, and thank you for your poetry, but moreso, for being you!

GEEZ, doesn't anyone tell me anything around here? HOW did I miss this? Sigh, I will only plead much older age, for Martie, you are only growing younger with your muse, which does so well..Happy Birthday then, gentle one, very gentle smile
