Everywhere you look, there’s a sea of pink
Disease touches more people than you’d think
Shivering in the dark, waiting for dawn
The pistol cracks and the runners are gone
Soon even walkers are well on their way
Smiles and tears both evident on this day.
Whatever weather, they’re out on the street
The great power of love inspiring their feet
Lists of names are inscribed across each back
Giving incentive no trophy or plaque
Can ever equal. For those who survive,
Someone celebrates their being alive.
And those whose long struggle ended in death
Are remembered with each laboring breath.
All these participants know the real race
Is to find a cure for what many face
To help such a breakthrough, they’ll huff and puff
But human feet just can’t go fast enough!

Many, many thanks to Marge for helping me with my ribbon problems. I plead guilty to computer illiteracy and rejoice in friends kind enough to bail me out. *G*

Sea: Thank you so much... those hugs were just what I needed! *S*

Sven: I will, too... my 8th. *S* I'll be thinking of you, miles away, seeking one common goal.... thank you!

Seymour: I had a special spicy friend of ours in mind when I wrote it. *S* Thank you!

Nan: My personal pace is ridiculously slow... I keep expecting them to have a cure by the time I stagger over the finish line. *G* Fortunately, I believe it's the participation that counts. *S* Thank you very much!

Denise: Thank you for reading! *S*

Marge: I almost hollered "help" yesterday... but I was stubborn and convinced I could/should manage? LOL Thank you for reading and rescuing... and for reminding me so often you remember. *S*

Kit: You mean you SAW that picture of Mel Gibson????? LOL... I wish!! *G* Seriously, thank you very much... your kind words are greatly appreciated. *S*

Janet Marie: Yeppers... you read my mind. *G* Thank you so much for the beautiful picture... it's especially appropriate for another one of this poem's "inspirations." *S*

Thank you all for the kind words welcoming me back... each and every one are greatly appreciated. For at least a while, my time here will continue to be limited... but it's very good to be back in any capacity. *S* I've missed you more than I can say.

Belle - What a very appropriate poem.  When I first read the title, I thought it was about you chasing around after that scalawag Toerag to cure your blues.  Here's a hug to keep you going.

The pink ribbon award goes to you, suthern. Thanks for caring and sharing this problem, which leaves so many people blue. 'Run for your life' has a different meaning for these women.

LJA: Now THAT'S a race worth running! LOL Granted, I need wings on my feet to catch a peek... but the sight of his (ever-fleeing *G*) behind IS a blues-buster! *G* Thanks for the read, sailor... and the hug! *S*

Carolina: So you're not a girl anymore, CG? LOL Thank you very much... glad you like! *S*

Balladeer... Yes, sir... it is indeed... and we must. *S* And when I tire, I've only to hug a survivor... if they can, I can. *S* Thank you, dear friend... more than I can say. *S*

Midnitesun: It sure does... something I couldn't forget as I moved one name from my "celebration" list to my "memory" list. (One year today... I miss you, Helen!) Thank you for reading... your words mean much to me. *S*

jellybeans: Since KJ made off with a copy, I suspect it's gonna get some exposure. *G* Thank you isn't nearly enough, dear friend... but I do thank you. *S*

Lady in White: Yeppers... more than sympathy is needed. *S* Thank you for reading!

PDV: I know you're having computer difficulties... so I appreciate your read and comments even more. *S* Thank you!

Martie: Thank you so very much, kind lady. *S*
