Sometimes I think a stranger-
Resides inside of me.
Resents the order in my life-
Desiring to be free....

He wants to hit the open road-
Go places we have been.
And be a brother to the wind,
The way we were back then.

Back then, when I was foolish-
Back then, when I was free.
And nothing in the universe...
Had any claim on me....

I had no place that I called home-
Nor man who I called friend.
I guess I only lived to roam,
That's how I was back then.

Back then I had no children-
I didn't have a wife...
The only thing that I desired-
Was live a drifter's life...

To follow one more winding road-
Until I reached the end...
Sometimes I wish I could return-
To how I was ...back then.

I do so enjoy reading your thoughts GS.  You have a way of putting it into words with a wisdom....well written.

On the wings of words our spirits fly....and our souls are free.

I suppose we all have conflicting desires of one sort or another residing within. Great expression, John!

Gunslinger, I really like this. It reminds me of how my hubby feels when he takes off into the country on his "iron horse" just to be alone with his thoughts of times gone by. Chris

*sigh* yes, back then....But maybe the future will hold even better times than was back then. You have such a way with words that I always feel touched by you when I read your work. Very well done, Gunslinger.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

Ah this brings back my gypsy days when I would change countries as soon as change underwear. I'm getting that itchy feeling again (no...I've already changed my underwear, just thinking of changing countries again!! lol) What a great poem, as I say, you've brought back many memories to me.

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?
