Locked inside her captor’s cage,
she stretches both her wings....
Deep inside,  familiar longings start...
From her soul a melody takes hold,
she starts to sing...
Her song of love,  that beats within her heart...

Bars cannot contain her voice,
and so the song begins...
Echos heard beyond the fortress walls...
Penetrate her prison’s gate,
then fly into the wind...
Searching for the ears on which to fall...

Years go by, and still the little bird
gives gift of song...
Every day is sweeter than before...
She never flies, but stays and tries
to right her captor’s wrong...
And overlooks the gap ‘tween bars and door...

Then one day another voice
sings deeper harmony...
She listens, and within, a need awakes...
His song of love drifts from above,
each note in perfect key...
Her heart is drawn toward the sound he makes...

She steps onto the bars that hold the
once-locked prison door...
With all her strength, she pushes, with her weight...
The door has opened outward,
and her prison is no more...
She spreads her wings, then flies to meet her fate...

Now, if you listen closely, with your heart,
and not your ear...
Two singing voices bless you with their song...
And what is sung, has just begun,
because she conquered fear...
And learned to give the love that lay inside her,
all along...

The road goes on forever, and the stories never end...

Fear is a part of all Love, sometimes even of Love. Enjoyed.

Beautiful, and I took it literally being a bird lover. You know people let their birds free or they escape and they search for other home because they can't survive outside. I was thinking about my birds this morning how sweet their song is. Touched my heart this one. I have found 6 birds since I lived in this house. I still have 3 of them.
Sometimes when we are "free" we just can't be.Great poem.

Sunny

The melody can be heard for many miles and can certaily lift your heart to sing.  Very nicely done, but coming from you is nothing less than perfect.
