counting cotton threads

she lifts the sheets
and slides
in

remembering
when the cold
side was warmed
by a willing
wanting
man

and wonders
if
when
who

why...

the old music plays
golden tones
times gone by
remembering the feel

remembering the why

faded

on dresser's shelf
photographs
him on one side,
then, herself

remembering who

decades gone,
still only a breath
away

remembering when

somehow, someway
she senses
without trepidation
that there will one day
be an if

if so
she'll greet the
morrow with a smile
when

she lifts the sheets
and slides
in

well written, I wonder if it would be the same or would it be better.

Do not fear going forward slowly,
Fear only standing still.
