Our Inspiration

We surround ourselves
in love's comfort;
at first, in the folds of family,
then into the realm of friendship;
later, if we’re lucky,
into love’s intricacies;
finally, to create new families;
but we never plan on being alone.

We keep the dark thoughts at bay:
loneliness,
depression,
a cold front,
looming,
an endless storm
on a constant horizon.

Along with handfuls of dirt tossed
into the undying dwellings of the dead,
we surrender their bonds,
the peace in life they gave us,
an unnamed, unadorned gift
unfailingly there -
an invisible affirmation,
worn like happiness
of simple cloth,
colors gay.

I really like this Corinne. . . it speaks a lot to where you get your own inspiration. . . and that it's never as far away as we might think. . .

wonderful. . .

Corinne, this is a fine poem, I saw much in here!
