Reason and Passion

Reason and Passion crossed paths on a road
Each bearing in weight much too heavy a load
Reason was seeking to conquer the mind
Passion, to smother the heart til it’s blind

They continued their journey, each thought he was best
Reason tread eastward, and passion went west
Not pausing a moment for small compromise
For each one believed he was so much more wise

Then Passion fell ill and in sorrow he wept
For promises given that never were kept
Alone he couldn’t handle love’s troublesome strain
Without reason’s patience to calm and restrain

Reason, however was plodding along
A road leading nowhere with never a song
For the mind that he conquered was tearing apart
Unable to live without love in his heart

The one heading west now looked eastward instead
And reason turned ‘round with delight in his head
They met many times through life’s intricate maze
And each shared the burden the rest of their days

Lady Santos, this is very reminiscent of how Frank Baum created Oz...by looking at the history of Kansas, and subjecting all politicians to the wit of his pen...

yes, very reminiscent...

and very well done!

Liz,

MOST excellent, wise and clever in the story telling.  I really enjoyed this much.  It's a keeper for sure.

I missed this lovely verse. I'm glad I found it today.

" I walked beside the evening sea And dreamed a dream that could not be" George William Curtis"
