Me and this old park bench
We go way back

I remember coming to you
And crying once
While I silently watched
All the couples walking, loving
And it was just you and I
The space empty by my side
You cradled soft sobbing
In the fading of your paint
I picked at you in the sun
Nervous and heartbroken
Children walking by us
We smiled
Through splinters and rust
The bolts holding us together
You were rickety, but welcoming
Inviting me to sit a while
Seemed as if you even pulled
The trees to shade my misery
Then opened the sun
To dry my tears
You held my waves of anguish
Allowing me to sit back
And open my eyes to the world
So now I come to you in peace
The sun is nice today
The emptiness beside me filled
With beautiful solitude
My world now overflowing
With precious love
And you with a new coat of paint

Oh, what beautiful imagery here. I really, really like this. So beautifully put. So lucky you both are to have a new coat of paint.

Superb, Regina. Such wonderful imagery, and life giving properties to your friend, the bench.

A great write Regina, I could see the bench in its weathered state of comfort to its newly painted facelift.

Thanks for the sharing of work.
To have a friend just listen, in silence just be there
To have a place to visit when the tears are everywhere
To have a seat of comfort which will stand the test of time
Is what comes to my memories and what is truly mine

Dear Ms Wood - whewwww!  Hot!  This is really neat stuff here.  I like the way you anthro-ed that bench into a friend.  I especially like the way you closed both the state of the bench and your state so consistently.  What a beautiful metaphor.  BTW - Your picture is very sweet.

Regina - I had to come back and read your poem again.  I wonder how many other people recognize this poem for the incredible power it has.  This is a very good poem, excellent in so many ways.  Absolutely wonderful, Regina.  The images are crystal clear, and evoke a lot of emotions.

I'm glad your friend who has supported you in heavier times now embraces you in hugs of content. This was very well conceived.

This was really beautiful, especially these lines. It brought back those old feelings of isolation so powerfully!  Good job!

A unique yet familiar perspective...  What countless stories that bench must have.  This is a wonderful use of personification and makes me curious to hear more.

LongJhnAg: You are so gracious to me. Thank you again! Very much appreciated!

LonelyStranger: Wow! Thank you! He was very versatile! From Playboy to The Giving Tree! Thank you for your response!

RSWells: Yes, I pay a visit of respect as often as possible, just to remind me of where we both were once in life. Thanks so much.

Apache906: Thank you! In nervous isolation I do tend to pick and shred things. Strange but true.

Bob: So wonderful to make you smile!

Mark: Exactly! What stories is true. Think of all the public non animate objects that could tell volumes. Thanks for reading!

Sincerely,
Regina
