As I sit in my yard
Looking out at the rustic view of the valley below
I debate whether or not to open the card
It is the one thing that I still have to hold on to

The world out there is always spinning faster and faster
But life on this mountain of mine is slow
The morning sun comes up and puts on a color show done by the master
Just my lazy dog and I gets to see the show

The birds in flight sound like angels joyously crying
When the sun rise brings a new day
It all comes together and makes life worth trying
The sunshine helps keep the blues away

Thoughts of you and the life we had together
Come to me every night and smudge the senses
Trying to turn my world dark with stormy weather
But I am safe behind my defenses

For the love we had lives forever
For now you are with the Lord
I know that one day soon we will be once again together
For in due time I shall have my reward

Alan, this left me speechless. Haunting, moving. Anything I could say here just pales in comparision to what you have just written.

Alan, We all have been "rewarded" just by reading your poem.

Life is not measured by breaths you take, but by moments that take your breath away.
