Breaching the soiled city,
a crow beak's tweaking pinch
of usable gut from road kill,
I pick up two simple garments
Jacqueline left behind on her
graduation to state jail.

Finding the correct department
staffed by plump Andy Devine voice,
(for the mean deputies roam the street).
I knew him to be the purser
on this Titantic we ride together.

Aloft I see the staterooms/penthouses,
around me steerage/streetlevel
where the immigrants/disenfranchised ride.

I notice a gift smuggled out
on the plain white T-shirt;

A single red hair
from the head of my sparrow.

I traipsed through the mud icinged sidewalk,
heartened, knowing 3 days of rain ease
her way in the non-airconditioned facility.
She and 140,000 other men, women and children
behind Texas' concertina wire.

I recall our meeting,
loud, crowded butcher shop for divorced,
where a lazy hunter will await Wednesday,
ladies night, and snipe a ripe one.

She held my gaze, step one
and our dancing clicked.
Boisterous and bellicose,
I decided to charm just enough
to make carnel
and then discard her.

Handing her friend my license (how chivalrous),
I took her home. It'd been awhile
and I took it out on her, eliciting
a high compliment from a woman
12 years closer to our prime,
I'd worn her out.

The next morning I came out of
the bedroom to boot her
and found her on the floor
with Buster, my 19 year old cat.
Blind in one eye, limping,
who in his senility had become
unkempt with matted hair.
Even my kids who he preceeded
thought him something out of
Pet Cemetary and would have none of him.

Jacqueline demanded a brush
and I watched from my chair
as at my feet, this Mary Magdeline
stroked Love over and over
this pathetic creature.

With every pass she took on
human proportions,
every caress shed my resolve,
each smoothing crumpled the paper thin
intentions of the cold sexual shredder.

We talked.
She shared her story.
Now her story's mine.

the saga of Jaqueline continues...and as before ...touches me deeply.
somewhere a long the line, as I read this, I began holding my breath,
when I got to the last line, I sighed...
and now Im smiling at you--
for the outstanding poem...and for what I read between the lines.
as before...I thank you for sharing...
your wounded bird is one of your most giving muses.
take care Richard

PS...brillant metaphor and anology with the Titanic and iceberg references
