Incense, smokey, cloying,
Headachy...

Candles so much sweeter,
Light scents that permeate
Without overpowering...
Flickers elongate,
Undulate shadows against
Walls, bring them to
Life, tall, dark spectors...

Candles' little flame
Illuminates so well in
Opposition
With the soft darkness
That are wrought of a
Tiny, well lit torch...

Incense, thick and forceful
Gives no light at all...
Just that tiny lava-like
Red eye....
Not enough to see by,
Not enough to delight
With bright, dark shadows
On the canvas of the wall.

Shannon~
You wrote this so softly ...
like shadows dancing in soft flicker~

Nice softness here, my friend...I too prefer candles...in fact don't allow incense lit in my house...irritates my nose (had heck of time in my "hippie" days...)
