My son and his wife are expecting my first grandchild in Novemeber...tomorrow I am going with them to the ultrasound that should determine the gender of the baby...they didn't have such things when I had babies..I'm sooo excited!!
------------------------
Come with Me into Sunday Afternoon

Come with me my darling,
my husband,
into Sunday afternoon.
We will notice the trees
heavy with apples almost ripe
and plums will purple our smile
and the mimosa tree will exhale
its heavy breath
and turn the grass pink.

Come and see
how the blue bird travels
across the ground
darting with hunger,
he follows the digging
and swallows the upturned earth
with his eyes.

See how the sun is ripe now
even in near evening,
for summer is full on
and its blooming
is the sunflower that only needs
a crack of sidewalk.

We will walk aound it carefully
for it is full of what hope is.

I am spirited to jump
into the splash of this day with you,
drench your hair
and kiss the water off your lips
that are still fragrant with cut grass.

Tomorrow will be a beginning
for in a tiny ultrasound of life,
the future   a grandchild.
I will see my son in this way,
his gentle curved head will be
a father and I will want to hold him
in my lap again and make time move back
to the baby of him.

Come with me into the yard now.
The language of love
dangles between us
so rare and perfect.
I will hold your hand
and we will be quiet
as the sun sets,
that is a promise.

Tomorrow will be a new beginning.

In the dew of little things,
the heart finds its morning
and is refreshed.
(ee cummings)

Oh,Martie~
Your excitement just shows all over you ! !
Yes, I can see how this event would take a mother back to those days when we held them in the womb and waited for the coming of who they were.

What joy !  What a precious moment for you !

'for it is full of what hope is'
Yes ....
Love n' hugs~

thank you for sharing this wondrous and lovely time with us...I will try with all my might to just be happy for you and your family and not be envious...but it shall be hard

I shall just remain at your shirt tails whenever you let them come close enough to brush against and hold onto for the briefest of moments

This piece radiates with so much inner exitement and antiscipation. Just think,  those tiny little fingers so soft and gentle will one day pen such loving poetry, just like his grandma Martie. This write has much soul.   May your joy lasts a lifetime.

Ah Martie you know I know what you know!  But, I hope your little one did not do what ours did...it played shy on us, and being shy and polite it covered itself with its little hand - darn it!  We go again and hopefully next time we will know, as this time around we want to know.  Oh, come back and tell us how that heartbeat of your life's extension made you feel won't you?  This was filled with love and anticipation, so I hope your wee one is not camera shy.  Hugs and have fun!

Loving the interplay between the ripening fruit and the ripening sense of family from generation to generation...

a perfect mingle...

a wonderful weave....

Congratulations, Martie! That's fantastic news! My daughter Trisha is due Sept. 30th...she just had her fifth ultrasound...they still can't tell what it is because it is in the breach (sp?) position just as Nicole was....so we're having another mystery child! Congratulations again, Martie! Beautiful poem!

I know these feelings Martie. I have felt them too. I couldn't have put them as beautifully though. Your gift is a treasure box and your words are the jewels spilling out to dazzle us. Oh, and enjoy that precious bundle!
