A Summer Day Virginia Salter It’s hot, it’s hot, the sun is shining It’s hot, it’s hot and I sit here whining. Seems to me I’d better head outside Turn on the water and cool my hide. Give the plants a drink to get through the day Trying to keep them a healthier way. Dead head the flowers that are spent Clear away the dust the heat has rent. Do up the dishes, jump in the shower Rinse off the morn and the heat this hour. Close all the windows and doors real tight Turn on the a.c. until it’s night. Think cool thoughts like a river or stream, ‘Bout popsicles, watermelon, dare to dream. Drink lots of water, pray for everyone That has to work out in the hot, hot sun. Cool your heels, shiver your timber, Walk for health, keep your muscles limber. Be happy for the beautiful sun Bottle up some joy for the winter to come. © August 3, 1999 |

Ahh, the paradox of seasons! We always which for the cool in summer and then winter comes along and we want the heat back!
