I love the feel of skin
Pure from makeup, clean
Sometimes I wonder if my Husband
Wishes for a Beauty Queen
I can do the makeup, especially
The wine tinted lips of glamour
But on the weekends I enjoy
Running around free and natural
I have to dress up every day
At work, for the office scene
I can do high heels and the walk
Except I stand, six foot three
My hair is wild, but I can tame it
With products from the Shoppe
But on weekends I braid it, twist it
Or sometimes, just let it flop
I know he loves me, and accepts me
Just for who I am, but then
I hope he doesn't think I'm lazy
And don't want to look great for him
So every once in romantic while
I dress up the curls and lace
He's so good to pay attention
And my intentions, end up all over the place.

I know no one is to blame
In time youll feel strength when you call my name

Absolutely beautiful rwood, and if I may, here's my answer to your questions...sort of:

Washing Her Face

She never liked me to watch her
clean her face.
She said
it was like having someone watch
as your soul was stripped
to it's bare essentials.
First she'd brush her hair,
then pull it back,
holding it from her face with a plastic band.
Then,
when she wore them,
the eyelashes came off,
the mascara,
and the makeup,
in it's various layers.
The lipstick
she saved for last,
as if it was the final desecration.
She'd wash her face then,
with the special soap she bought,
slowly,
gently,
as if savoring the pleasure.
She never liked me to watch her
clean her face,
but I secretly spy,
every chance I get,
through the partially open door.
I watch,
as chameleon like
she wipes away the day
and becomes the woman
that I love.

Us men love the glamour and makeup and the wonderful "doo's", but that's not what we love most...we love what's left after all that's done and gone...YOU.

Janet: Thank you sincerely, I'm so glad you enjoyed.

Janett: So glad it delighted you! Thanks so much!

Helen: Thanks! Big smile

PassionsV: Yes sometimes you do! Thanks!

Jwesley: Wonderful poem and so glad you feel that way. I'm thrilled to hear that men really do like us without all that stuff. I always give him the benefit of the doubt though and let him mess it all up! LOL

Sincerely,
Regina

LOVE the ending..how perfect.
I know what you mean, too, its nice to let the natural self be there once in a while too. I'm sure your husband loves both sides of you.

With or without makeup ... you're always more tham good enough for the man that married you
It doesn't seem fair to live being a slave to makup and glitter
At home, you need to be yourself, the person he loves and whose company he enjoys

Regina, open and honest, with a lovely finale. As usual I enjoyed your words.

Catalinamoon: Thanks Girl! He's a great one!
A little spice makes things nice, sometimes!

Rex: I love your statement. Wise and true. At least that's what I hope for.

Walker: Thank you! Your comment is precious!

Maeve: I can't thank you enough. You are so good to me! Big Smiles to you

Moonshadow: Excellent! For I'm definately common, and ya know, I'm proud that I can say that. Because I do like myself, just don't want to do all that femme fatality of froofroo stuff every day.

Sincerely,
Regina
