I was flying along
The sun was just right
I was long winged, and gliding
Full bellied, from nectar sweet
I was proudly displaying my color
My green and purple tinged with pink
I courageously flitted into open spaces
Amazed of clouds, how I could reach them
How the flowers seemed to open just for me
And suddenly, the clear blue yonder of glass
Smacked me liquid, and I was wiped cleanly away

Dear Regina, full bellied and then meeting the end, I suppose that the bug could have been hungry and unhappy before the end, amazing where our minds bring us, and the subjects that we then bring to others, who themselves seek inspiration. Thanks for all your replies, I enjoyed this read.

All the best.

You had to pick a butterfly, didn't you ...
Why not a mosquito or a blackfly?
I cringe each time my windshield ends the journey of a butterfly ... most unbefitting their grace
I'll say nicely written ...
but with a sad smile

I live in the south. So the subject of bugs is part of my heritage.I recently read an article that said "love bugs" are attracked to internal combustion exaust fumes. It seems that not only do they like to mate in public on the wing. They also get high on exaust fumes."Get high, make love, kiss wind shield".
Damn hippie bugs!

Rick: Yes, my thoughts exactly, everything has an end. But at least he was happy. Thank you too for being a great source of inspiration.

Rex: Well, I was thinking more along the lines of a beetle, a cute, fat & happy one.
I too, hate to see the exalted wings of rainbows meet an end. Thanks for reading!

Seymour: You are right! My wise fellow poet! Thank you for stopping in!

Paladin: LOL! What a description of Love bugs. I lived in Fla. for a while and it rained Love bugs across the bridges. You had to go to a station and clean your windshield just to see to drive. Now, they know how to live don't they!
Thank you so much.

You gave me a smile, Regina. Thanks, I needed that.
(although I do feel sorry for the bug)

Regina,
Magical!  Sometimes we just have to fly away with our longings and passions...
