I rise in middle age
and here confess
a past replete with rage
and lonliness,
now rush to suckle sage
writ words express,
committed soul to page
blood's ink I press.

Before my final eve,
my last daybreak,
before I take my leave
to the opaque,
that when my children grieve
me in my wake,
a chronicle achieve
as a keepsake.

Fades the memory
our visage passed,
lest the departee
recalled miscast,
would they only see
iconoclast,
find now poetry
perhaps will last.

And while I would not
dare pose such pretension,
to think that what I wrote's
some new invention,
I'll never fear misquote
'aft life's abstention,
through writing I emote
truth's time's extension.

Love the flow of tumbling utterance.A solemn read, but well  written with much feeling. My favorite line "committed soul to page
blood's ink I press."  The imagery is vivid and I love the rhythm. Kudos! Love and peace ((~.~))

Flutterwings expresses herself very well, and in truth, I was recently asked, "why, what?" with regard to this obsession.

And you, sir...gave one reason.

Well done!
