please explain this thing called "hate"

i don't hate anybody.

i think some people need to learn some things,
but sometimes that takes years.

they choose to wear blinders,
and you have to understand that.

it might have been just one event,
a long time ago, that they can't forget.

and they paint everyone
with whatever face did it.

if you say "i hate < fill in the blank >,"
the < blank > becomes a part of you.

how empty that must feel.

Hate is like cutting somebody bare handed with a piece of glass. You cut up your hand as bad as you cut someone.

I feel that humanity has not been given the right to hate or be that judgemental.

"Hate is like cutting somebody bare handed with a piece of glass.  You cut up your hand as bad as you cut someone."

wpwpoet:
"I feel that humanity has not been given the right to hate or be that judgemental."

But dont you think there are real reasons to hate someone? Or maybe to hate what they have done? How do you separate that from the person? I have heard people say "oh I dont hate them just what they do"...people generally represent themselves by thier actions...they are what they do...a kind person does kind things...a vicious person does violent things...and while I agree that hate hurts most the person doing the hating...I do feel there are moments when hate is deserved and in actualty isnt even a strong enough emotion. Ok off my soapbox now...did I throw enough rocks Tom?

You hit the nail right on the head! Short, simple yet profound. Definitely a lesson more of us need to learn

Hi Paula!

> But dont you think there are
> real reasons to hate someone?

no i don't.
"hate" feels bad,
and it's not good.

> Or maybe to hate what they have done?
> How do you separate that from the person?

talk to 'em!

> I have heard people say "oh I dont hate
> them just what they do"

maybe their pants are too tight?

> ...people generally represent themselves by their actions...

so if i like to dance,
i should avoid white people?

you know i'm seldom serious,
and i talk in circles most of the time,
just think about that, ok?

> they are what they do...

only sometimes.

> a kind person does kind things...
> a vicious person does violent things...

what about cops?

> and while I agree that hate hurts most
> the person doing the hating...
> I do feel there are moments when hate is

can you say that when you're the target?

for no good reason at all,
some dip**** just had a bad day
and you got elected.

> Ok off my soapbox now...
>did I throw enough rocks Tom?

ouch!
i think so!
try poetry next time, ok?...tom

Ok this is getting philosophical here...But I am compelled to reply...although we may not agree with the actions of a particular person. we still are not given the right to hate that person. If we are spiritual beings then we must live a spiritual life and in order to "trancend" as indivduals and a race we must learn to reject the urge to hate...

Poem Crazy,

hate is a world where darkness prowls-
a beast- snarling, spitting, devouring all.
insatiable, it hungers, feeds, howls-
consuming those who hear its call.

I agree, who needs that?  Very good poem too!
