Listening to every heart

0 posted 2001-06-02 09:40 AM

Rites

a liturgical ceremony
this writing one does
a cleansing ceremonial
of one’s whole soul

and I shall engage therein with time and right the reasons and the wherefores
and no one, not you, nor you, nor he, nor she, shall remove me from this path

I shall climb this hill
look north, south
east, west, and in the turn
lift my arms in this rite

and I shall speak to the hawk, place palm upon the doe, be wind beneath owl’s wing
seek the coyote’s lair, tend the grasses, and gaze upon the cornflower’s blueness

in this dance of write
I shall perform in solemn
accord with the right
of this instrumental rite

in the realization of what I am, and not what I could pretend to be, I find that my heart holds

a poet

and I would pretend no more, that my right to write can only be held in my own hand

my quill owns me

is this ritual then
an obsession or
merely an observance
of what is

I have spent my first lifetime observing
it is now time to perform the ritual

now

I

live

and as you perform the rite as you did then, may those same spirits fill you with the light of a thousand lives. . .

you know that I could relate to this one. . . excellent job. . . perfectly balanced the spiritual with the physical. . .

I think you live life to the limit every time you pick up that quill so that's not gonna change.....and I don't think your quill owns you anymore than you own it. I think you don't own the part of yourself that harbours the restless desire to speak with the written word about these marvelous adventures we call arts. And kid you're damn good!

Yes, Karilea, you are indeed a poet.  (and an excellent one) Please never doubt that, even for a moment.  Thank you for this, now write and write and write...  We need your words.  Thank you.

Yes it is time - and live you will!  I don't know why but this made me cry.  Fantastic.

It is some times too late before some of us make this realisation. "I have spent my first lifetime observing
it is now time to perform the ritual"

           "NOw i live"

I hope to joy you in life soon   until then I trust that you will keep me informed through your words of poetry. Excllent poem, Karilea. One for the library.
