This Stranger I Know   (lovingly to Dr. Katz, my mentor)

I know a stranger who heals broken minds
minds bruised and confused, minds with no purpose or time
a man who hears others problems
problems from those who hear voices
desperately trying to bring those back to some aura of reality
it is said there is a thin line between those two worlds
such a tough job getting them back
sometimes having to bring them, kicking and dragging them over
having to carry them at times for they are unable
healthy clean strong bodies fettered to tainted minds
such a frail place this labyrinth we call our mind
I watch him
I watch him and wonder how he bears this weight on his shoulders
never breaking
holding on to compassion, intelligence and humor
yes humor
he plays life and humor with grace
does he hear their their voices at night
voices of many
a voice pleading, crying, angry, unbelieving, questioning
pleading for his help to relieve them of the demons
I have looked into his eyes
the eyes of a stranger
the soul of someone who cares
he remains anchored
I give him a cup of coffee,
he questions my kindness
not to rebuke me but in appreciation
I look at him and laugh
saying something silly about domestic skills
all the silently thanking God my mind is strong and clear
and that you have the strength
going through your day healing broken minds
this stranger I know

Helen--I like this much. Mine is Dr. Denton--The good doc showed me that the stranger that I knew/know? Is me!
A nice tribute and a lovely thank you.
