Awwwwwwww summer
the wonderful aroma of charcoal lighter fluid
wafting past my nose
dripping burning tears from my eyes
conjuring luscious carcinogen steaks
in my dreams
even though stomach is sated
I'm sedated
by fulfilled desires

I love that nostalgic smell of summer, even though it's bad for you...and I still love the smell of the weed killer used in the vacant lot where I played as a child, for the same reason.  I enjoyed your poem.

Thank you both.  Unfortunately the charcoal lighter fluid is coming from some neighboring yard, one I cannot see, let alone crash for a bite, if I wweren't so full to the heartburn level, already.

Fruitwood, sounds interesting, Krawdad.  Where does one find that???  Does it light for someone who's not a boy scout?

VAS,
Probably any fruitwood would do.  The point being that wood of fruit trees tends to lend  the sweetest smoke flavor.  I don't do this much anymore, but used to use mulberry and apple along with hard maple for good long-lasting coals.  Takes a little longer to create the cooking fire, of course, but isn't that what beer is for?
