Dusted Wings

The lamp is lit as shadows fall,
And quiet echoes down the hall,
Silence deafens, and sadness brings,
In solitude I sit with dusted wings.

'Ere the moon is risen yet;
The sun in a bloody bath has set.
And vainly fluttering as in a trance,
I turn into a moth, and do a merry dance.

Like a moth drawn to a light,
My soul and heart waltz at night.
A friend or lover, just who is he?
The memory who makes a moth of me?

Up and down outside the glass,
Then back again another pass,
The shadows flit against the wall,
And I am but a moth, a monster tall.

But the glass is hot and hits my wing,
The end of flight for this nighttime thing.
On the ground or in the gutter,
Departs this soul with one last flutter.

I try to avoid wanderings to the light,
By listening to music, diverting the night,
I will not be a moth, with dusted wings,
I'll write of hope, and love it brings.

Sweet lady poet. I feel an honor to have my name attached to your work in any way at all. I am glad to have inspired such beauty, but even more glad that you have the talent to write so wonderfully and make use of your inspiration. And to the Pssst...comment you made to me somewhere on here, I thank you also.    This is beautiful beyond my meager words. You are in my Library if you don't mind.

I am bound by this, you see...to become Night's sole mistress, and I am jealous in my endeavours for his attention.

Sunshine ~* Well I hope they enjoy it!

Charisma ~* Thank you for your kind words of encouragement.

Sven ~* Thank you and yes the inspiration was terrific, I was actually talking to her at the time I wrote this poem so it was an easy one!

Indeed...set your spirits free on the wings of butterflies...a beautiful creature created through a metamorphosis...something that is within the realms of possibility for each of us...just throw your head back into the winds of chance...and set the butterflies of wishes and dreams free to fly...so very beautiful!
Hugs and smiles to you..always...dawn
