Lady Tahat

Like the Blue Lotus she holds
with bud-shaped hands,
lady Tahat embodies fertility’s peak;
the coffin’s portrayal of a youthful face
belying the aged, diseased priestess beneath;
her unveiling -
after a three-thousand year sleep,
surrenders small secrets
to modern, prying hands.

Were her twisted, deformed fingers
the result of years of harp playing?
And the parasites that ravaged her body,
from ceremonies of purity
in the Nile?

Chantress of the temple,
singer of hymns
to the god Amun at Karnak,
your people lovingly
protected your body from evil,
so that you might return,
beautiful and ageless.

Like the goddess and the Blue Lotus,
we sink below the water line at night,
and re-emerge with the sun
to bloom once again.

Thank you, Marge! It's great that you found that site, same one I was looking at!

Saw a documentary about her, she was only recently found and is over 3000 years old,
became obsessed with learning more. She had Shisto Samiosis - a parasite from a worm found in the rivers and lakes that still plagues Egypt. It eventually destroys the body's organs.

The anthropologists used her DNA to discover what ailed her and what compounds were found in her hair and tissue. She was so well preserved that her organs were still intact.

In this way, we can learn about more facts about life back then.

Thank you, Sven!

Very interesting write sweet poet. Right up my alley at this time. I've been doing alot of reading about speculations on ancient Egypt and Sumer. Their is so much hidden still. Its so nice to see it weaved into your poetry.

As always amazing imagery Corrine, really enjoyed the read.

Thank you, Park. A recent obsession here. Now I want to travel there and spend some time wandering - see what can be learned.

Wouldn't it be great if we could do just that, whenever we wanted?

Thank you, Kathleen!

Thank you, Brian!
