Disappointments seeds are sown,
Just as innocent life's grown,
Th magic dreams we all invent,
Can reap adults steeped in torment.

A little girl awakes to snow,
Fresh wonder unrehearsed this show,
As overnight her whole world changed,
A clean white blanket was arranged.

A doting mother then festooned
Scarf, mittens, flannel, boots and soon
Hood framed rosey face which beamed,
As flakes of fantasy slowly streamed.

The white, the bright all seemed so right,
This young life's day, surely no night
Would darken one so unsuspect,
Would not our God this one protect?

So mother, child in matching coat,
Angels made of sugercoated
Lightly drifting swirling snow,
Found pliable as cookie dough.

Thus bequethed the doom'd plan,
Teach the daughter to make a man,
From provenance of Eden's root,
To mould kind likeness in pursuit.

Of yearned perfection as beheld,
In predilection unparalled,
To so assume in her control,
The tools to make a man who's whole.

And so the night content she slept,
When came the morrow soon she wept,
For naught was there left of her man,
But flower pot hat, carrot, land.

Thus the snowman she had built,
Had in the night completely wilt,
And as that year had run it's course,
She'd lose her father to divorce.

Then in her teens a lying boy,
Played to her lonliness and destroyed
Another phase of innocence,
With "forever" words did he convince.

Before her years had reahed one score,
Another smooth talker's child she bore,
Believing all the Love he swore,
To vanish then to nevermore.

A son was born one winter day
And waiting there to take away
Were those who stated they knew best,
Forget it all dear, you just rest.

Booze and drugs helped cloud the mind,
But through it all she would then find,
A man whose truth and Love purebred,
At last! She thought and so they wed.

A daughter, son they did create,
It seemed she found a kinder fate,
Reformed, once lost exotic dancer,
Her husband then succumbed to cancer.

Back to wayward habits lost,
Went she and at a painful cost,
What hope there was fate had castrate,
Her children became wards of state.

And now she rides fortunes wind,
Too often its direction sin,
Unlike the little girls snow flurry,
It isn't white nor pure but blurry.

She looks at me as her iceman,
Tomorrows sun has other plans,
And while for her plight I have felt,
I know that soon I too will melt.

Man, what a devistating tale.  Powerful ending - if a sad one...  Great read.

Thank you Michael. Art imitating life I fear and I haven't the sense to completely melt as of yet, not an easy task in South Texas in summertime.

Yeah, I'll admit I was afraid to ask how much truth was in this tale - I wish you the best in your endeavor.  And stay out of that darn sun...

Inspired by a photograph found among the meager possessions of a (near) broken woman who entrusted all to me while she cools her heels in the hooscow (sic?). One I refuse to abandon and whose only contact is me. There are and will be more of her stories.

My heart still will always ache for her, and I wish Snow Angels in her future, but most of all that she gets to make them with the two children as yes, you too will melt.  Well done Richard.

Well done,
a flowing story in rhyme.
A topic I can relate to also.
Keep telling these stories,
I like them.
