I still don’t dance.

If it was just a matter
Of moving left and right
Or circling in some
Ritualistic pattern,
I might be able to learn.

Iambe tried to teach me.

Pulling out old tapes,
She played music she said
Was easy to dance to,
Put her arms around me,
And tried to lead me through
The music and into dance.

I lack the rhythm to dance.

I mastered the movements
But could not in grace perform
Anything but stick stiff
And ugly undulations.

Disgusted,
Iambe told me I had no soul,
Shut off the music ,pulled
Coveralls over her black lace
And went out to work
On Bob’s old Ford.

I watched her leave,
Turned the music on again,
letting it permeate the words
Dancing in my head.

I still don’t dance,
but the words do.

well I DO dance...and love for my partner to do so, but he doesn't have to do anything but touch and sway and that will be  enough to satisfy ...*and your words do dance  one's mind

Dancing is nice but the thrust of your work makes that of little importance. Well writ.

I still don’t dance,
but the words do.

Who cares if your mind won't get your feet to dance, as long it is getting your pen to move.
