Our city needed a Manager,
a prestigious position indeed.
Many people applied,
but only one did this city need.

Several candidates answered each question
correctly and with respect,
But the council sought someone different
than what you would expect.

The last one on the list was given
a simple mathematical test.
“What’s 4 + 4? Tell us the answer
you think is the best.”

Without hesitation, he quickly
came to his feet,
walked softly to the window,
lowered the blinds, then took a peek.

Quietly he looked down the halls, closed and
locked the door, then pocketed the key.
He dimmed the lights, stared intensely at the council
and whispered, What do you want it to be?
