My Sweetie’s Nose
Virginia Salter

and then there was the time
in an early summer clime
my boyfriend and I did labor
stringing string for beans to savor
in the long and hot day’s sun
I’ll admit it wasn’t fun

that is until we stood
with others who’d finished work for good
said one gent in pure jest,
of my sweetie’s nose, at best,
“Your nose is red as a strawberry,”
his thoughts too shortly they did tarry,
continued he in his discourse
followed up with some remorse,
“better be careful or I might pick it.”

I nearly fell upon my knees
laughing harder than you’d please
imagining my beau
with a nose-picker well in tow.
I share this memory today
getting quite carried away
with lovely fruit out of my past
though relations did not last
I have the comfort of our joy
from back when we were girl and boy

Hello from another Oregonian.
This did give me giggles, but it also brought
back that feeling of sticky bean vines at
5:00am, still wet from the sprinkler.
Thanks for a whiff of nostalgia.
