I will come back to you

I haven't even seen the seed of you
nor where it all began
I only saw the glittering lights
and felt the streetwise scam

the pull of you still has me
though winter was your scenery
I roamed the ancient streets of you
admired your southern greenery

cathedrals held me in religious bent
coffees smelled my whims away
yet the pull of you still has me
am I caught up in your river’s sway?

I want to come back, to feel your charm
to be enchanted, become disarmed
I want to see your land in play
and touch yet that cloth of gray

to have your humidity seep my skin
to touch the place where blood was spilled
to feel the shivers on the wind
to stand again where Indians tilled

to know the humanity of your south
to stand there, close to the river’s mouth
my passions were flamed, there in your all
and I still hear your southern call

I will come back to you, O, my N’awlins
for I shall find the seed of you
I want to see you in your finery, all
to take my rest ‘neath your twilight’s pall

to feel your earth’s soil upon fingertips
and taste your mint upon my lips
to hear the whispered drawl again
and feel your comfort ‘gainst my skin

I will come back to you again,
look for me, you’ll know the when

And might you travel in this manner?

Wow!  So nicely done, Lady.  I am from the deep south and have that drawl that you speak of.  I enjoyed this.  Thank you.

I know this feeling very well. . .

and you've shown it perfectly here. . . with a wonderful use of the dialect. . .
