Inch Worms
Virginia Salter

'Inch worms'
a-chatter'
marking sides
marking trails
rulers, cubes
click nails

standing
sitting
crawling 'round
checking out
what each has found

measuring
their math class 'way
in the warm
of springtime day

second graders
alive and well
play numbers
perimeters tell

polygons
all kinds, all kinds
challenge up
their growing minds

Polygons, all.  Well done!

You know how sometimes you don't even realize that you've forgotten about something...until you remember it, again?  That just happened to me when I read this.  I'd forgotten all about inchworms.  I used to love to watch those things when I was a kid.  Thanks for the memory!
