Slow Ahead

They've got it wrong you know.
Youth I mean.
They begin
Dancing close,
And thus leave no room
For anticipation,
Let alone
Progress.
How can a young man possibly imagine
His next step
While his head and chin
Hang over a girl's shoulder?
Nothing but a foul line
Stares back at him.
What kind of inspiration is that?
It seems to me he must remain,
At least for a time,
Somewhere
Beyond the horizon
While considering, at arms' length,
The wisdom
Of sounding the depth of eyes in front of him.

I hear you faintly. The problem is I truly love dancing cheek to cheek.

I read this twice. Tell me if I am feeling this one wrong, but I feel something heavy, almost sad in this piece. Though the imagery speaks of love in the dance, I feel something like apprehension or the like, between the lines.  Maybe it's just my mood interfering with perception
Either way, it's a great poem.

Applauding from Indiana!   Now I agree with these wise words completely.  Where is the sweet anticipation of young love growing?
One of my favorite authors is Louisa May Alcott.  I believe back then, they had it right.

Sunshine....Nope. Not asking the YOUNG to be wise at all. Chuckle. Thank you. Bob

Julian..."Heaven, I'm in heaven.....dancing cheek to cheek.." Thank you very much, Fred and Ginger...and you too Julian.  Bob

dragonpoe....Sad? Hmmmm, complicated. But that's a line from a movie too. The thing is this. Getting close, really close, takes time. But nobody has time anymore. So, yes, maybe that is sad. Good for you. We've come full circle.  Thank you much.

Indiana....Notre Dame and Oregon State, last New Years, not only got close, they got downright nose to nose intimate. Go Beavers!!! Seriously, thank you. And it's nice to see that youth and age can still agree.  Ah, to be 65 again. Bob

Yes, they have it and I want some back!
