In the space between moments

0 posted 2001-03-30 11:39 PM

A spindling of neon firelight
Curls upward from the caliginous veil
Pulled over wrought iron skies--
A dust-bowl abyss
Enswathed in anguish
And bathed with blood-heavy darkness
Fashions the nightmare
Of this broken, dismal world.

...I’ve too long known this hell...

And so I close my eyes
Letting peace fall in soft flutterings
Over this pain-drenched soul...
A shimmering, a gentle glimmering
Of spring showered sweetness
Glides within my private dreamscape...
The moments still the heat
Sparking through these veins
And for a brief moment
I know serenity.

...Then the screaming earth pulls me back...

I’m drawn into the suffering
Of so many dying reveries...
How can these tender, ivory hands
Purge the blackness
From so many hopeless beings?

And so I close my eyes once more
Letting peace fall in soft flutterings
Over this pain-scoured land...
Each breath I exhale into the sky
Is a prayer for the greater good
And maybe this way
(since they say we live in our minds anyway)
I can believe that one day
My struggles will make a difference.

Jeez, Krista!! You are way too young to have experienced all that and, being so, it is more impressive that you can write it so well. Wonderful work....

You do this to me everytime and I love it
this is such an impressive write K,...
the imagery is astonishing and the vocabulary is most impressive...
And caliginous is the COOLEST word!!!
outstanding writing ...

Your struggles do make a difference, Krista.  If for no other reason, even when you close your eyes and escape this world, you still have to live with yourself.  So never give up - trust me when I say that is a far lonelier feeling.

I agree with balladeer - it's almost scarey for someone as young as yourself to be able to capture the essance of despair so well in writing.  You have a remarkable talent.

Alwye,

You write with such depth of feeling here.  Your point comes across beautifully.  Never give up the hope.  You'll get there!!

I echo all above Krista.

An incredible write, an incredible YOU.

This poem would be awesome if written by someone sharing the wisdom of many years... you must have been born with a caring heart that sees and a pen that prays... you have exhaled sheer excellence here!
